Tricks
Need some advice? Low on rupees (if that's even possible)? Having
trouble at some point of the game? Here's a whole bunch of tricks for
Ocarina of Time you can use! If you have one,
send it over!
QUICK CASH: This game is quite frankly the easiest one when it
comes to shopping. Rupees are everywhere! Here's some ways to
collect quickly:
- As a child you can get 60+ rupees easily! All you need is the
Sun Song! Go to Hyrule Field at daytime (play the Sun Song if it's
night) and approach the bridge. Now carefully walk up on the chains.
Avoid falling! Now play the Sun Song so it's night. The chains
will start retracting and the bridge will rise. When it's fully up
carefully walk on top of the bridge. You'll receive 60 rupees.
If you need more then jump right towards the Market (you'll probably fall
through the ground, it's a common glitch) and enter the first building (it's
on the upper-left of the screen). Smash all the pots to get lots of
cash. Roll at the boxes to break them to find five rupees per (there's
also a Gold Skulltula).
- If you're an adult it's not quite so routine, but you can get tons.
Just explore the region closest to you for grottos, particularly ones under
heavy rocks. Some contain gold rupees, which are worth 200!
- Another way to get some quick money is find and destroy all the gold
skulltulas in Hyrule, and then talk to the center guy in the Skulltula House.
He'll give you 200 rupees. Leave, and then talk to him again.
He'll give you another 200! Feel free to do this as much as
you want.
- Kill any creature with a Light Arrow (excluding bosses, mini-bosses,
or special creatures) to receive a huge rupee!
DRINKING GHOSTS: Yes, it's true, you can drink
ghosts! Go to the graveyard and catch a poe in a bottle.
Equip and use. Link will take it out and drink it (eww...) and
will either gain one heart or lose one heart. Don't ask me why
they included this.
SINKING LURE: The sinking lure is a special lure
that can only be obtained when Link has the Golden Scale. You can
find it at one of four places: on/around the log, by the rocks near the
stream, near the lily pads by the log, or at the end of the shore from the
three rocks in a row. Fish will go crazy when you cast this lure!
HYLIAN LOACH: The legendary Hylian Loach is a long
fish you can find in the fishing pond. It usually hangs out near the
lily pads or the center of the pool, and likes to lay low. It's extremely
difficult to catch, but if you can get it with the regular lure near the
pads, consider yourself extremely lucky. You can also try catching
it with the sinking lure, but if you do the fisherman won't give any award
since you cheated.
FUN WITH GOSSIP STONES: Gossip Stones are by far
the strangest things I've ever encountered. Aside from talking about
the game, it also likes to spin and stretch (use Din's Fire or a magic arrow),
tell the time (use your sword), launch into space (use a bomb), or squash
to the ground for a few seconds (use the Megaton Hammer). Also, if
you hit a gossip stone while it's blinking (after bombing it) a certain color,
it'll remain that color.
HUGE FAIRIES: Play the Song of Storms in front of
any Gossip Stone to get a huge, red fairy. It'll restore all of your
magic and health, but it cannot be bottled.
CASTLE CLOCK: If you walk on top of the gate near the castle, you'll
find a bird sticking out of the side. Press A while facing it to find
out the time. Who knows why they put that there!
ONTO THE BAZAAR'S ROOF: This will allow you to get
onto the roof of the Bazaar in Kakariko, even though you're not supposed
to! First, position yourself so you can target the small peg in the
corridor inside the windmill. (Do not enter the windmill. The peg is
above the door and to the left.) Longshot into the corridor and run
up the small stairs until you find the cucco. Equip your hover boots,
grab the cucco and run to the medicine shop's roof. You should be able
to reach the corner. Then you can glide to the Bazaar's roof.
SECRET GERUDO LOFT: Go through the Fortress until
you reach the top level (where the treasure chest is). Jump behind
the chest. There is a doorway, which will lead to the Gerudo loft.
The loft has a hole in the bottom, which leads to the prison cell.
Originally, there was supposed to be a heart piece here (it is still
obtainable if you visit as a child via Moonjump).
DIRT FAIRIES: Play the Song of Storms near a soft
patch of soil. A cutscene will play and three fairies will appear.
POWER UP YOUR SWORD: No matter where you are, you
can make your sword twice as strong by Z-targeting your enemy, holding forward
on the joystick (or without moving at all), and pressing A. Depending on your weapon, you can
destroy the monster in no time at all.
